Summary Reader Response - Draft #1

In the article titled “S’pore’s fifth desalination plant opens on Jurong Island”, written by Qing (2022), functions and features of Jurong island desalination plant are described. Desalination is a water treatment process which aims to convert seawater into potable water. According to Qing (2022), Jurong island desalination plant receives seawater used to cool the complex, a utility plant supplying steam and electricity for chemical companies on Jurong Island for processing into potable water. The plant processes consist of dissolved air flotation, ultrafiltration and seawater reverse osmosis which removes pollutants such as dissolved salt, minerals, bacteria, etc. One notable feature is that this highly automated plant only requires two to three people to operate, making it the most manpower-efficient plant in Singapore. Moreover, Public Utility Board PUB(2023) mentioned that "its co-location with Tuas Power’s Tembusu Multi-Utilities Complex allows it to derive synergies in resou

Initial Research Path

Description of Desalination 1. For the research, our team chose water treatment system as the topic to research  2. Our team uses gAI (Chatgpt) to generate an overview of the desalination water system on its features and function. The prompts used are as follows: "What makes desalination, a water treatment system?" "Compared to other water systems, what makes desalination unique compared to them" and "Help create an overview on desalination." 3. We searched Google for more information on what company or technology uses desalination and we found an article on the Jurong Island desalination plant from Straits Times.

Introduction, Communication Skills, and Module Goals

Subject: Introduction, Communication Skills, and Module Goals   Dear Professor Blackstone,   I hope this email finds you well. My name is Alson Ho Jian Wei, and I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself. I will share some insights into my educational background, communication strengths and weaknesses, as well as my goals for developing effective communication skills in your module. I graduated from Nanyang Polytechnic with a diploma in Architecture in the year 2021. My passion for civil engineering ignited during my polytechnic internship at Orion Integrated Services, witnessing a project materialize with its intriguing structural design. To ensure a comprehensive grasp of structural principles, I decided to pursue a civil engineering degree. Civil Engineering is a notably demanding discipline that necessitates the application of various soft skills, especially effective communication. In past internships, I encountered instances of heightened tension, particularly as deadlin

The Importance of communication skills for engineers - Quotation

"Developing excellent communication skills is absolutely essential to effective leadership. The leader must be able to share knowledge and ideas to transmit a sense of urgency and enthusiasm to others. If a leader can't get a message across clearly and motivate others to act on it, then having a message doesn't even matter." Gilbert Amelio, former President and CEO of National Semiconductor Corp What I understand from this quotation is e ffective knowledge and idea communication is a necessary qualities for a leader. In addition to providing information, a leader's communication should excite and give others a sense of urgency. According to the statement, a leader's capacity to inspire others to take action is largely dependent on how well their message is received. If a leader cannot effectively convey their message and motivate others to take action, even the most valuable message will be rendered meaningless. In conclusion, the statement emphasizes how cr
